Job Summary:
- Provide strategic and technical leadership in the conceptualization, initial sizing, and preliminary design of eVTOL aircrafts. Drive innovation, ensure compliance with global certification standards, and position the OEM as a leader in urban air mobility solutions.
Job Description and Scope
1. Conceptual Design
- Define aircraft configurations (multirotor, lift+cruise, tilt-rotor, hybrid).
- Conduct mission analysis, payload-range trade-offs, and performance benchmarking.
- Translate customer and regulatory requirements into design specifications.
2. Initial Sizing
- Lead weight estimation, power-to-weight ratio analysis, and propulsion sizing.
- Perform energy storage and battery sizing studies, including thermal management.
- Establish baseline aircraft parameters for feasibility and certification readiness.
3. Preliminary Design
- Oversee aerodynamic modeling, CFD/FEA simulations, and structural layouts.
- Integrate avionics, distributed propulsion, and safety-critical subsystems.
- Ensure compliance with DGCA, EASA SC-VTOL, FAA Part 23, and emerging eVTOL standards.
4. Leadership & Governance
- Build and mentor a multidisciplinary design team.
- Establish design review processes, risk management frameworks, and TRL-based development.
- Champion digital twin adoption and model-based systems engineering.
- Work closely with R&D, manufacturing, certification, and supply chain teams.
- Partner with academia, startups, and global OEMs for advanced technologies.
- Represent the OEM in industry forums, regulatory discussions, and customer engagements.
- Drive adoption of lightweight composites, advanced battery chemistries, and hybrid propulsion.
- Benchmark against global eVTOL leaders and incorporate best practices.
- Promote sustainability and indigenous technology development.
5 . Qualifications
a. Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Aerospace preferred.
b. Experience
- 10 - 12 years of progressive engineering experience in the aerospace industry.
- Expertise in aerodynamics, propulsion (electric/hybrid).
- Proficiency in tools: CATIA, ANSYS, CFD, FEA, NPSS, GasTurb, MATLAB/Simulink.
- Familiarity with battery modeling, thermal management, and distributed propulsion.
- Exposure to certification pathways for novel aircraft (DGCA, EASA SC-VTOL, FAA Part 23).
- Proven track record in conceptual/preliminary design of aircraft, UAVs, or eVTOL systems.
c. Leadership & Soft Skills
- Strong executive leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to balance innovation with regulatory and safety requirements.
- Strategic thinker with hands-on technical credibility.
