TEC Structural Design

Mass Properties & Loads (MPL) Engineer

Chennai, Tamil Nadu
Work Type: Full Time

About the Team

  • We are developing the e200X, an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL)  aircraft for urban air mobility. The Mass Properties and Loads (MPL) group  handles weight tracking, center of gravity (CG) management, and the  development of static, dynamic, and aerodynamic load models. In this role, you  will contribute to the digital twins and physical prototypes for the e200X.

Role Overview

  • As an MPL Engineer, you will work with design groups (systems, aerodynamics,  flight mechanics), the airworthiness office, and ground and flight-test centers.  You will establish the aircraft's mass properties and coordinate across technical  groups to identify, estimate, and validate loads across flight regimes—including  hover, transition, and wing-borne flight—as well as ground operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mass Properties Management: Establish, track, and manage mass properties  for the e200X aircraft down to the part level. Implement weight control processes  and predict the weight and distribution of variable payloads (passengers, cargo).
  • Loads Analysis & Coordination: Identify and estimate structural loads due to  ground handling, component interactions, and aerodynamic forces. Develop  load cases for the airframe, rotors, and propellers in accordance with DGCA,  FAA, and EASA regulations.
  • Digital Twin Integration: Supply mass and structural data to simulation teams  (utilizing platforms like NVIDIA Omniverse) for virtual flight physics validation.
  • Trade Studies & Optimization: Propose weight-reduction schemes and  collaborate with design teams to execute weight-saving strategies.
  • Certification & Flight Test Support: Track eVTOL regulatory frameworks. Define  and analyze loads for type certification, determine ballast configurations for  prototype flight testing, and calculate weight and CG envelopes for mission  profiles.
  • Process Improvement: Evolve internal practices for mass properties and loads  forecasting, integrating industry standards and data from flight tests.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s or master's degree in aerospace engineering, Mechanical  Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Experience: Experience in aircraft mass properties engineering, loads  prediction, or structural dynamics.

Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with aviation airworthiness regulations (such  as AEAC No. 1 of 2024, EASA SC-VTOL, FAA Part 23/27, or DGCA equivalents).

Technical Tools: Proficiency with CAD/PLM software alongside engineering tools  such as MATLAB, Python, or mass properties tracking software.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical  Engineering.
  • 2-4 years of experience in mass properties, loads analysis, or structural  engineering.
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis (FEA) and loads generation software (e.g.,  MSC Nastran, Patran, ANSYS).
  • Strong understanding of flight performance, aircraft static/dynamic loads,  aeroelasticity, and composite material structures.
  • Experience extracting and managing mass data using modern CAD/PLM systems  (e.g., Siemens NX, Teamcenter, CATIA).
  • Familiarity with aviation regulatory frameworks and certification standards  (DGCA, EASA, or FAA).
  • Hands-on knowledge of aircraft mass property determination for design and  flight tests.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Specific experience working on eVTOL/VCA, rotorcraft, or airplane.
  • Programming skills (Python, MATLAB, or C++) to automate data processing and  loads script generation.
  • Experience with digital twin environments or advanced simulation validation.
